Road Test Results Are In – 2016 Chevy Camaro Spells Excitement

To a car enthusiast, few things get the blood pumping like a ride in fast new car, and the new Chevy Camaro is no exception. With GM President Dan Ammann behind the wheel, the experience could be even more exciting. Having become certified to test drive vehicles while they are in development, Ammann is no stranger to the Grand Prix race track just a few miles from GM headquarters. Nor is he a stranger to taking tight corners at high speed and topping the 100 mph mark. And, yes, his auto insurance is current.

Word is, the 2016 sixth-generation Camaro’s agility can be felt with every turn and it’s supposed to feel even tighter than the current Camaro. According to Ammann, the mass reduction, the agility, the stiffness of the body structure will all contribute to a car that really handles well. And, with the cranking out of 340 horsepower from the V6 test engine, the car has plenty of power to spare.

The Camaro may be a niche model in a market where roughly 17 million vehicles will be sold, but this new edition of the sports car is regarded as a big deal for GM. Next to the Corvette, the Camaro is the most iconic model in the GM lineup. Ammann strongly believes the car has the power and appeal to make people take notice and, for some, lead them into Chevrolet showrooms throughout the country when it rolls out and makes its official debut later this year.

It is a hugely important car for Chevrolet as it has proven since being reintroduced to the American public several years ago. Along with the retro Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, and Ford’s iconic Mustang, the Camaro has revitalized the auto industry, quenching the consumer’s thirst for an exciting, yet affordable sports car to drive.

Like other GM executives who frequent the company’s proving ground in Milford, Michigan, Ammann wants to make sure he fully appreciates the cars, trucks and SUVs that GM is selling. And, the best way to do that is to take a few laps around the track and put the vehicles through a road test. Senior executives are all heavily engaged in the development process. Ammann also believes it is very important that their points of view regarding the vehicles be expressed throughout development.
